Dwahn Davis, 39, was charged with driving while intoxicated, hindering apprehension, three counts of aggravated assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, two counts of criminal mischief, and refusal to be fingerprinted. The Atlantic City Police Department announced his arrest in a news release on Tuesday, Feb. 13.

An officer saw a vehicle speeding on Arctic Avenue at 12:47 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 12. The vehicle failed to stop at several red lights and drove recklessly as the officer tried to catch up to it.

The officer tried to stop the vehicle near Tennessee and Caspian avenues. Davis slowed down but he failed to pull over until he hit a parked vehicle.

After crashing, police said Davis got out of the vehicle with a beer bottle in his hand. The officer asked Davis basic questions like how to spell his name.

Davis failed to answer the questions and the officer tried to arrest him. Davis grabbed the officer's fingers, twisted them, and tried to run.

Once he was placed under arrest, Davis was accused of kicking the officer. Police also claim he threatened other officers at the scene and spat on them.

Davis was also accused of spitting in the back of a police car and purposely urinating in his holding cell at the Clayton G. Graham Public Safety Building. He was then sent to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.

Anyone with information about the incident should call Atlantic City police at 609-347-5766.
